Democrats across the country are absolutely thrilled Stacey Abrams is their candidate for governor in Georgia this November. National and grass-roots Democrats say Abrams, with her compelling personal story of growing up impoverished, has the potential to at least make the race competitive. Democrats think they can do this by mobilizing some of the 1 million people of color who did not vote in the 2016 presidential election. It takes Abrams convincing local and national donors a Democrat can actually win at this level in Georgia and that they should cut checks to her. No surprise: Republicans think Democrats' focus on Georgia is a waste of time and a pipe dream.
