The New Zealand Transport agency said congestion had built quickly after a "significant" amount of "metal debris" spilled across southbound lanes on Tuesday afternoon. It said the rubbish spillage had occurred after the Princes St off-ramp, causing a detour to be put in place. Motorists were advised to exit at the Princes St off-ramp and re-enter at the Princes St on-ramp, with delays expected southbound from Ellerslie to Penrose.
