NEW DELHI: Floods in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have once again brought the problem of silt and congestion into focus, but there does not appear to be any solution in sight. This panel has been given six months time to submit its report.Even before getting an outcome, the ministry had in July set up another committee. This time, it was asked to prepare guidelines for de-siltation of river Ganga from Bhimgauda (Uttarakhand) to Farakka (West Bengal), keeping in view the ongoing river cleaning exercise.The second committee, headed by expert member of the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) Madhav Chitale, has so far failed to deliberate the issue in detail after being constituted over a month ago. Though this panel has been given three months time to submit its report, the possibility of it completing the task within the stipulated time appears to be remote at this juncture. "Reports of both these committees will help the ministry in formulating a national policy on silt management", said an official on Wednesday.
