Fire crews will work through the night as they battle a blaze near Palmerston, north of Dunedin. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they were called at 8.49pm to a fire of an undetermined size, but it was "quite large." Two appliances each from Palmerston, Waikouaiti, Hampden, Kakanui and Waitaki rural were called. Two additional appliances from Dunedin and Weston were called to assist after 9.30pm. As of 10.15pm crews were still tackling the blaze, and would continue to do so all night, the spokesman said.
