Three helicopters and 10 fire trucks have been sent to battle a fire near Palmerston, north of Dunedin. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they were called at 8.49pm to a fire of an undetermined size, but it was "quite large." The fire was at a rural property on Chalmers Rd, Bushey, and was burning through pine trees and slash - debris from removed trees. Two appliances each from Palmerston, Waikouaiti, Hampden, Kakanui and Waitaki rural were called. The spokesman said three helicopters were on the way but they would face issues with the lack of daylight and strong winds.
