Crackdown continues as FinMin sacks 15 more officials on corruption charges

New Delhi: Continuing its crackdown on corruption, the finance ministry has forced 15 more officials from Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) officials, facing corruption and other charges to retire compulsorily, sources said. These officials were not only accused of corruption but were also involved in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related cases. These steps are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s attempt to project itself as a party that fights corruption and takes tough stand against it. “Corruption and nepotism have damaged our country beyond imagination and entered into our lives like termites. We are continuously trying to weed them out," Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in his Independence Day speech.
