The chairwoman of the UK vaccine task force has warned that even if we do get a vaccine it may not be one that provides full protection against Covid-19. Kate Bingham said that we may have to be content with a drug that merely blunts the severity of the disease. Speaking at the Commons science and technology committee, Ms Bingham, who co-ordinates UK efforts to make, manufacture and secure a vaccine, said that developing one is “an uphill struggle”. “We don’t know coronavirus well,” she said. So we may never get a vaccine, or we may only get a vaccine that modifies the severity of disease.”
