A steel wire connected to the front seatbelts in some Volvo models can suffer from wear that causes it to be weakenedVolvo is recalling 170,000 vehicles in the UK because of concerns over a seatbelt fault. The Swedish carmaker said that almost 2.1 million cars would be taken off the road worldwide as part of the biggest recall in its history. It said that an “extremely rare” fault could cause seatbelts to fail in certain models built between 2006 and 2018. The company, which has been owned by China’s Geely group since 2010, said there had been no reports of injuries or accidents in relation to the fault but that it was a “precautionary recall to avoid potential problems in the future”.
