Coronavirus cases are now rising in England, official figures say

The figures use a model to estimate all coronavirus cases in England - not just people who test positive. Today's figures suggest 35,700 people (23,700 to 53,200) in the community population in England had COVID-19 in the week to July 26. Last week the weekly ONS update said a long decline in coronavirus cases in England over the last few months "has levelled off". Last week ONS stopped short of saying cases actually rose - because each week's statistics "cannot be directly compared". The seven-day rolling average of new cases in England had fallen to 535 on July 1, the lowest since March.
