Coronavirus: PM says Government would need to pass law to charge returnees - and could do so before election

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the Government would need to pass a law in order to charge returning Kiwis for the cost of their quarantine or managed-isolation, if it decides to do so. She was confident that this would be possible with just two weeks of Parliament to go before the September election. Simon O'Connor/Stuff Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said a law change would be needed. Ardern may need the help of the Opposition, as the Green Party are against most kinds of charges for returning Kiwis. All need to complete two weeks of managed isolation or quarantine in a Government-run hotel, with two negative test results around day 3 and 12.
