Timaru District mayor Nigel Bowen will meet with the Timaru CBD group over its concerns about a proposed retail development at Showgrounds Hill. On Friday, the CBD Group sent a letter to Bowen and Timaru District Council chief executive Bede Carran outlining a number of concerns relating to the proposed development and requesting an urgent meeting with councillors and Timaru District Holdings Ltd directors. Bowen, who is a former chair of the CBD group, said he was aware of the group’s concerns, and was “more than happy to provide an audience”. Bowen said he hoped some councillors would also be available to meet with the group, but “that depended on their schedule”. However, CBD group chairman Nigel Gilkison said he would like to see restrictions on the proposed retail centre, or failing that, Timaru District Holdings Ltd should drop out of the sale and purchase agreement.
