Coromandel Wasp Wipeout project targets Cathedral CoveSTUFF Why wasps are badA Wasp Wipeout project has turned its guns on Coromandel to combat the peninsula's wasp problem. The region joins a Stuff initiative that started in the Nelson/Tasman area in 2016 and campaigned to rid the region of the German wasp (vespula Germanica) and common wasps (vespula vulgaris). COLIN McDIARMID The German wasp (vespula Germanica), common wasp (vespula vulgaris) as well as the paper wasp will be targeted for the Wasps Wipeout project. SUPPLIED Cathedral Cove is the first ranked hotspot in the Coromandel region set for the Wasp Wipeout project. In 2017, the wasp wipeout initiative raised more than $50,000 with the support of DOC, the Tasman Environmental Trust, Project Janszoon, and members of community.
