Hasina made the remarks at the inaugural session of the 47th National Cooperative Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Sunday. The prime minister said that currently there are 174,000 co-operative societies in the country with a total membership of around 10 million. The total capital of these associations is Tk 135.8 billion and the number of jobs generated through cooperatives is about 900,000, she said. He thought that cooperatives could play a big role in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh," said Hasina. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and State Minister Mashiur Rahaman Ranga were also present.
