Hawkins Construction has been found liable for more than $13.4 million over the botched construction of an Auckland secondary school. A High Court judgment released on Tuesday found H Construction North Island Ltd (formerly Hawkins Construction North Island Ltd) liable for negligence in relation to the construction of Botany Downs Secondary College in east Auckland. The High Court awarded costs in relation to five defects in the school's construction: poorly formed metal roofs, poorly formed internal gutters, poorly formed junctions between walls and eaves in the gymnasium, inadequate ground clearance and "cold joints", and inadequately fixed fibre cement sheets. H Construction North Island Ltd has been contacted for comment.
