Conservative convention delegates vent over party’s ‘disaster’ of election campaign

The election campaign “was a disaster” and unfairly targeted Muslims, Heer told Conservative party executive director Dustin van Vugt at a session on the 2015 election campaign review. Conservative delegates lined up to vent Friday to the party’s executive director over what they said were huge mistakes in the party’s national election campaign — including targeting Muslims, negative advertising and constantly barraging members for donations. VANCOUVER — A Muslim woman broke down in tears Friday at the Conservative national convention as she assailed her own party for its “disaster” of an election campaign that “unfairly” targeted Muslims. Urz Heer, a board member on the Conservative party’s Brampton South riding association, was reduced to tears as she recalled her party’s national campaign, one that saw the Tories assailed for rhetoric and policies that critics said were anti-Muslim. The Conservatives promised during the election campaign to ban the niqab at citizenship ceremonies and consider prohibiting public servants from wearing them in the workplace.
