After round after round of negotiations, the yearslong controversy over the 2013 demolition of four homes in Dapu, Miaoli County, could finally be drawing to a close. Mirror Magazine quoted reliable sources as saying that after mediation by Presidential Office Deputy Secretary-General Yao En-do, the parties involved had finally reached a consensus. The Presidential Office is expected to announce this week that the four homes will be rebuilt at their original locations. The Presidential Office aims to seal the deal by May 20 -- the first anniversary of Tsai Ing-wen's presidency. The drama started when the Miaoli County Government, under then-Magistrate Liu Zheng-hong, appropriated a section of land in Dapu for the expansion of the Hsinchu Science Park.
