Nearly one in two retailers in Taiwan sell cigarettes to kids under 18 years old. That's what the Health Promotion Administration discovered in its latest investigation into the sale of cigarettes to minors. It found that 46 percent of retailers in Taiwan do not follow the laws prohibiting the sale of cigarettes to those under 18, with the most frequent offenders being betel nut vendors. Some 60 percent of betel nut vendors sold cigarettes without asking for identification to prove they were over 18 years old. Citing a 2016 survey, the administration said there are 100,000 teenagers in Taiwan who smoke.
