Great Fairlie Garage Sale organiser Erin Thomson with some of her garage sale items – excluding her dog, Charlie. A Fairlie woman’s New Year clear-out has morphed into a giant garage sale stretching from “tip to tail” of the small South Canterbury town. Organiser Erin Thomson, of Heartlands Resource Centre, said the event came about because she had been planning her own garage sale as part of a New Year clean-out, and put the call out on social media for people to join her. “A lot of people said they wanted to do it with me, so I took the initiative to do a map and organise a bit of music,” Thomson said. Maps for the Great Fairlie Garage Sale, which goes from “tip to tail” of Fairlie before spilling into Albury, are available from Heartlands on Main St.“It’s hopefully going to have a good turnout.”The event runs from 8am, with live music between 5pm and 7pm.
