The UK Government has closed its borders to the United Arab Emirates, forcing Emirates to suspend its services to Britain and Ireland. All incoming passenger flights from the UAE, Burundi and Rwanda have been banned from arriving in a bid to stop the spread of the highly transmissible variants of the virus. All Emirates flights to Australia – a common transit route for returning Kiwis – were suspended earlier in the month. The ban, implemented to prevent the spread of the highly transmissible South African and UK variants, will take effect from Friday (local time).
