To be fair to public sentiment, there were a couple of short-lived controversies on Thursday that deserved the backlash they provoked. One that did not, however, was the misunderstood issue of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s handling of donations to medical frontliners. Thus, the uncomplimentary public conclusion that he was taking advantage of the crisis to gain some publicity was perhaps understandable, though very much in error. To be sure, public vigilance over the government’s handling of the effort to defeat and recover from the coronavirus crisis is necessary and valuable. It will only be so, however, if everyone sharing news of developments does so with due regard for accuracy and complete facts.
