Police on Thursday night foiled a child marriage in the Halishahar area of Chittagong city. The marriage in question was between Hosne Akhter Happy, the 14-year-old daughter of Surat Ali, and 18-year-old Panir Hossain, son of Abul Kashem, local ward Councilor Morshed Akhter Chowdhury said. Upon receiving a tip off, police, the ward councilor and locals rushed to the wedding venue and stopped the proceedings in their tracks, Halishahar police station SI Mahabur Morshed told UNB. Police detained the two students, their parents and an assistant of the marriage registrar’s office in connection with the incident. All the detainees were later released on bond.
