The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) then issues accreditation certificates to these inspection agencies against set criteria for ISO/IEC 17020. My rallying call, therefore, is for all the players, and in particular the regulators, to embrace accreditation. In the case of road accidents and fatalities, the same model applies where, for us to address the situation, there is need to revisit the processes of administration and enforcement of public transport and safety regulations. Ideally, regulators should contract accredited inspection agencies on their behalf who issue inspection reports that the regulators will use in making decisions regarding certifications. It also issues accreditation to all conformity assessment service providers in the public and private sectors.
