Our Special CorrespondentSanjita ChanuNew Delhi: Ace weightlifter Sanjita Chanu was provisionally suspended, on Thursday, after she failed a dope test for a banned anabolic steroid, according to International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). In case her B sample test also turns out to be positive, then it could also spell doom for Indian weightlifting. According to new rules set by the IWF, if 20 or more lifters from a particular country fails dope test between 2008 and 2020, then their quota in the Olympics would be reduced to two. “Things would never change unless the government becomes stricter in punishing dope violators,” said a sports medicine expert. “It should be made compulsory for dope violators to return all cash prizes received for winning medals”.
