The airport authorities have drawn up a proposal to revive the paid porter service by giving those already employed as contractual trolley retrievers the opportunity to earn some extra cash. By getting the same set of people to do these two jobs, we are trying to make sure that they offset each other," an airport official said. The service became unmanageable when contracted trolley retrievers, otherwise known to be lethargic, started masquerading as porters in the arrival area. "This is possibly the only effective way to stop the practice of trolley retrievers not doing what they are supposed to do. Trolley retrievers are notorious for their lackadaisical attitude to work and quick to invoke their allegiance to union leaders when they land in trouble.
