New Delhi, Jan. 27: The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has been told by a government nominee to withdraw a plea challenging the Tamil Nadu bill that legalised jallikattu, the board's lawyer told The Telegraph today. "On January 25, I suddenly received a communication from the secretary requiring me to withdraw any petition filed against the Tamil Nadu ordinance. I have not filed any petition, I have only filed an interim application in the existing petition, with the full consent and authority of the AWBI. The AWBI petition in January last year had challenged the Centre's notification that allowed the bull-taming sport. It is on this petition that the apex court had stayed the government's notification, rendering jallikattu illegal but it has been legalised again by the Tamil Nadu bill.
