Several Canterbury schools were among 42 schools nationwide that borrowed too much last year, an Auditor General report reveals. The other Canterbury schools that failed to comply with the Education Act loan requirements were Aidanfield Christian College, Ashburton Intermediate and Marian College. "However, each year, we identify some schools that we consider to be in financial difficulty," it said. "Many schools, particularly small schools, use a service provider to prepare their financial statements for audit," the report said.
