Canceling MPF offsetting and increasing statutory holidays on agenda next year, Law Chi-kwong said

Canceling Mandatory Provident Fund offsetting mechanism and extending statutory holidays will be on the agenda next year, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong has reassured. The government will also look into expanding a concessionary travel scheme allowing the elderly and the disabled to take public transport with a HK$2 fee, Law said in his blog today. Back in November, Law said that a legislation about canceling the MPF offsetting mechanism is expected to be introduced to the Legislative Council by the end of 2021, with its implementation due in July 2022. But Bill Tang Ka-piu, member of Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, slammed Law's blog today as insincere and lacking transparency. “Is it that the bill is just too complicated to draft, or is there any other reason?” Tang said.
