CALGARY—A special air quality statement was issued for Calgary on Friday morning as smoke from northern Alberta wildfires continue to affect much of the province. Calgary’s air quality health index hit its highest mark possible of 10+ early Friday morning, indicating a very high risk. As long as the smoke creates poor air quality conditions, Environment Canada warns that it could lead to coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. In Calgary where the air quality is still at a high risk, Environment Canada warns that opening windows in homes without air conditioning could let in more polluted air. Air quality advisories will remain in effect until further notice, AHS also said, because air quality can vary throughout the day with changing weather and wind conditions.
