Picture by Kishor Roy Chowdhury Calcutta, Aug. 23: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today said the protection measures against steel imports should be "temporary". The statement comes at a time the producers and users of the alloy are sparring over the recent steps taken by the Centre to safeguard the ailing domestic steel players. In the long term, it (country) has to do away with the protections," Naushad Forbes, president of the CII and chairman of Forbes Marshal, said here today. Narendran, chairman of CII eastern region and managing director of Tata Steel, agreed with Forbes but sought to explain the circumstances behind the imposition of the levy. Anti-dumping takes time and for that temporary measures are taken.
