Lucknow: In a bid to groom sporting talent right since the nursery level, UP government on Tuesday earmarked Rs 96 crore for development of infrastructure and training. Besides, all the schools would get an annual allocation to develop and maintain sports infrastructure. "The government would also send the coaches to National Institutes of Sports (NIS), Patiala, or Kolkata for their specialised training in various disciplines. Once they get degree from the NIS, they would train the junior lot to prepare them as a future talent in the state," says Bhatnagar. Nine players from UP had gone to Rio, but none of them succeeded in winning any medal.
