She used to commute to to Aminjikarai every day till the State increased the bus fares. Before the hike, she used to spend ₹50 to reach her place of work, which, after the hike, has gone up to ₹70. Not only Subbulakshmi, but most families resettled in the other TNSCB tenements too are facing similar difficulties after the bus hike. Activists added that the bus hike has mainly affected resettled families, as most of them are unorganised workers and rely on buses to commute. “The hike is only adding to their woes,” said R. Geetha, adviser to the Unorganised Workers Federation.
