First published in 2008, the Startups 100 index has an established track record in identifying the UK’s most exciting new businesses. On the other hand, it’s disappointing to see that only 21 companies in the index are based outside London. Aided by investment of £17m, eve Sleep is already trading in 10 countries and now aims to expand its product range beyond mattresses to other bedroom wares. Perkbox is one of several start-ups to have secured investment from tennis star Sir Andy Murray through the Seedrs crowdfunding platform. The business has 65,000 regular customers and has set itself a goal of reaching £20m turnover by the end of the year.
