At the final whistle as Old Trafford quickly emptied and became a sea of red seats all that could be heard were the raucous Paris Saint-Germain fans. Confident and imposing in the Premier League, United suddenly looked hesitant and confused as they shrunk against an elite European side. Throughout the night, United could not trouble Paris Saint-Germain, and were unable to create a single chance that threatened Gianluigi Buffon. This defeat shouldn’t be used to damn Solskjaer, for it simply proved what many had suspected all along: United weren’t good to get the better of Paris Saint-Germain. Paris Saint-Germain might have delivered a dose of reality on Tuesday night, but Solskjaer can still prove he is the man to take United back in to the Champions League next season.
