Bill that seeks deployment of social welfare attachés ratified

Bill that seeks deployment of social welfare attachés ratifiedhome/News/Nation/Bill that seeks deployment of social welfare attachés ratifiedMORE social welfare attachés will be deployed to Philippine embassies abroad once a measure that seeks to establish the Office for Social Welfare Attaché (OSWA) is enacted into law. The Senate ratified a measure that aims to deploy social welfare attachés in countries with high concentration of overseas Filipino workers, especially in the Middle East. Sen. Joel Villanueva, chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, said the adoption of House Bill 8907 as an amendment to Senate Bill 1819, or “An Act Establishing the Office for Social Welfare Attaché,” would do away with the convening of the bicameral conference committee, hence the subsequent ratification of the bill. Villanueva said the measure could help curb the abuse of Filipino workers and incidents of suicide. However, there are only eight social welfare attachés deployed in several parts of the world.
