Bangladesh seeks global support for Rohingya resolution at UN

The resolution, sponsored jointly by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the European Union (EU), is titled “The Situation of Human Rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar,” reports UNB. The resolution got overwhelming support from the UN members in past two years, said the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. While briefing diplomats on Monday, Muazzem said Bangladesh was hosting over one million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar for long. Quoting the Hasina’s proposal, he said international community must ensure that the root causes of the Rohingya crisis were addressed and the violation of human rights and other atrocity, crimes committed against Rohingyas were accounted for. Gambia, on behalf of OIC, also filed a case on Monday at the United Nations' highest court accusing Myanmar of genocide in its campaign against the Rohingya Muslim minority.
