With the latest promotions, the number of deputy secretaries has risen to 1,745, whereas there are only 800 permanent posts of deputy secretary. Last year on Dec 22, the government promoted 193 deputy secretaries to joint secretaries. In November last year, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional secretaries. Among them, 78 were promoted to secretaries, 293 to additional secretaries, 1,091 to joint secretaries and 1,066 to deputy secretaries. In November 2016, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional secretaries.
