Police have detained at least three BNP activists on Friday, during a rally brought out in Dhaka to protest against party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Around 1:55pm, hundreds of BNP leaders and activists organized a procession from Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Dhaka. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, president of Swecchasebak Dal Shafiul Bari Babu and Juba Dal General Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku were leading the procession. He said police had detained three persons from the area after the procession, adding: “We will investigate whether they were trying to create unrest.”Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders and activists from Dhaka University, Jagannath University and different colleges of Dhaka city and Juba Dal leaders and activists joined the procession. Amid heightening tensions and various speculations, a special court here on Thursday convicted former prime minister Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
