Jerry Halewood said NZ Post told him it didn’t realise there was a handrail going up the steps. On Wednesday, Halewood received a stack of letters – with the earliest dated December 1 – along with a note from NZ Post suggesting the mailbox be relocated to make it “mail-friendly”. Halewood said he had no idea NZ Post had been holding his mail, despite noticing some of it was missing. He contacted NZ Post after receiving the note. A spokeswoman for NZ Post said a risk assessment was carried out by the company’s safety team, which came to the conclusion that delivering to Halewood’s mailbox was of low risk.
