Our BureauOFFENDERS HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERECalcutta: Most people in this city use a mobile phone when they drive. Be it a narrow lane in north Calcutta or the crowded Gariahat crossing, this is a rule that motorists can be seen breaking every day. From the bus driver to the well-heeled person at the wheel of a sedan, nobody seems immune to this transgression. Drivers using their mobile phones at the wheel were spotted in Lansdowne, the Gariahat crossing, Red Road and in front of The Lalit Great Eastern and Victoria Memorial. At the Gariahat crossing, a man in a sedan drove one-handed through the crossing - from west to east - even as he kept talking over his mobile phone.
