Assam’s Sunil Kalita, 32, of the 209 CoBRA battalion, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, around 7.40pm on Thursday evening. Kalita, who hailed from Palara village under Kamalpur police station in Kamrup district of Assam, was engaged in an operation against Naxalites at Kuchai in Saraikela district of Jharkhand on May 28. Along with Kalita, two other soldiers, Mijanur Rahman from Boko in Kamrup district and Sambhu Mallah from Hojai in Assam, were also injured. Kalita’s colleague Mijanur Rahman, Nitul Barman and his younger sister’s husband, Pankaj Kalita, alleged that Sunil lost his life due to lack of proper treatment and negligence in the Ranchi hospital. His younger sister’s husband Pankaj said Kalita was very popular as a kind and well-behaved person.
