Artist bundles up science into art project for schools


On Wednesday mornings my car is filled with art materials, teenagers, birds nests, bundles of harakeke, clay and axolotls, which I’m trying not to let spill out of their containers and onto the kids when I go around corners. My plan was to bundle up subjects I find exciting - biology, geometry, pūrākau (narrative), sculpture, installation and technology - into a 20-week art project. Terri Te Tau/Supplied Because of the biology and geometry elements there’s also a lot of Māori vocabulary that we’re learning together. Ako means to teach and learn, and I’m learning a lot through this combination of students, art and axolotls.
