Mr Taylor was serving a jail term of 17 and a-half years for a raft of offences, a sentence which officially ends in June 2022. Mr Taylor told the Otago Daily Times the last time he had been in Dunedin, the visit was more fleeting. Mr Taylor is planning to spend six to eight months in Dunedin before heading back to Auckland.
