CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao: Army troops from the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion preempted a bomb attack at about 10 a.m. on Saturday after a concerned civilian reported a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) along the national highway in Barangay Saniag, Ampatuan, Maguindanao. Arvin Encinas, spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division (6th ID) said traffic was stopped while the soldiers cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of all motorists. Then, theAarmy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) recovered one IED made of unexploded ordnance from 105mm projectile, wires and one 9-volts battery. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, 6th ID commander, supervised the entire operation. “The primary goal of the attempted bombing is to create fear and sow terror in the community,” Sobejana said.
