After intervention by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, around two lakh Anganwadi workers in the state on Friday decided to call off their indefinite month-long strike. The state government agreed to raise their monthly wages as per their service seniority. Anganwadi workers and their helpers (Madatnis) were on an indefinite strike since September 11. Anganwadi workers cater to the nutritional needs of children under the age of six and adolescent girls who are malnourished or anaemic in rural areas. The breakthrough came at a meeting chaired by Fadnavis, which was attended by state Woman and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde and the representatives of the anganwadi workers.
