Almost one in two Europeans surveyed hope to take a holiday trip abroad by July 31 despite the problematic Covid-19 vaccine roll-out and ongoing travel restrictions. Ireland and other EU member states are being asked to prepare certificates to confirm Covid-19 vaccination – and to recognise these certificates across the common travel area. Irish aviation officials said that successful roll-out of such certificates would also offer a desperately needed boost for the hard-hit travel sector. Irish airports have seen passenger and route numbers slashed by the pandemic – with business at some Irish airports down by almost 95pc. However, Government advice remains that Irish citizens should plan to holiday at home this yeargiven the current Covid-19 case numbers.
