Air New Zealand chief executive Greg Foran said Covid-19 had created the toughest conditions the airline had ever faced. Foran said 4300 Air New Zealand staff had left the company due to the impacts of Covid-19. In July Air New Zealand chief financial officer Jeff McDowall said the airline was looking at other long term funding options. Air New Zealand did not provide specific future guidance but said modelling suggested it would also make a loss in 2021. A recent research note by Forsyth Barr analysts Andy Bowley and Scott Anderson said Thursday’s result would be the first annual loss for Air New Zealand since 2002 following the 2001 collapse of Ansett, which Air New Zealand purchased in 2000.
