A petition has been launched urging the Ontario government “to take action to protect in-person learning” with mandatory vaccines for education workers. Fayed said it’s especially important for kids under 12 to be surrounded by vaccinated adults since vaccines aren’t approved for their age group yet. More eligible adults vaccinated also means that COVID-19 transmission will be lower and could prevent schools from closing in the future. The guide says school boards should be prepared to pivot to remote learning, just in case school closures take place. Fayed says the coalition is optimistic that vaccines will be mandatory for education workers and any other adults who work, volunteer or visit Ontario schools and child care settings.
