Job One for Canada’s political leaders — election or no election — is containing the fourth wave of COVID-19 and finally ending the pandemic. And yet within minutes of Sunday’s election call, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole had already put himself and his party firmly on the wrong side of that issue. Their announcement last week on a vaccine mandate was obviously timed to the election call. Canadians will have a chance to debate many more issues over the next five weeks, leading to the vote on Sept. 20. The Conservatives need to get on the right side of this issue, and quickly.
