"Almost all the teachers already guide more students than the new rules allow. The ceilings are: three MPhil students and eight PhD students per professor, two MPhil and six PhD students per associate professor, and one MPhil and four PhD scholars per assistant professor. Data on the university's PhD students, which The Telegraph has obtained under the Right to Information Act, bear this out. Under the ceilings, they can teach a maximum of 64 PhD students, but the centre already has 93 PhD students.
