(Photos: Apichart Jinakul)Fourteen civil society groups have petitioned Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, calling on the government to urgently cut fuel prices, freeze household gas prices, lower electricity tariffs and curb the cost of essential goods. They argued that fuel prices remain high due to what they described as overlapping levies and charges, including value-added tax, oil fund contributions, local taxes, environmental levies, refining costs and marketing fees. Second, they called on the government to reduce electricity tariffs from 4.18 baht per unit to 3 baht per unit, in line with campaign pledges previously made by parties now in power. On Wednesday, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is set to review electricity tariffs for the May–August billing period.
